About

I'm Dave · Narrative Designer · Game Writer · Worldbuilder. I help game teams turn ideas into a story that holds together, has a clear direction, and feels great to play.
Most often, I work with people who have a strong game in their hands, but the narrative needs that final push: so characters have real motivation, the world follows its own logic, and players have a reason to keep going.
How I Think About Story in Games
I believe a great game story isn't just lore it's a system of choices, consequences, emotions, things the player experiences while playing, not only after reading the wiki.
That's why I focus on:
-
what the core fantasy is and why the player should stay
-
where character motivation works and where the logic breaks
-
how to keep the world consistent, even as the game evolves
-
how to make the narrative clear, scalable, and production-friendly
Usually, I join a project when:
-
the story has potential, but it's hard to shape it into a functional structure
-
quests/dialogue work on paper, but lack momentum and meaningful consequences
-
the world is full of ideas, but lacks clear rules and a consistent tone
-
the team needs to align direction, so narrative decisions happen faster and with less friction
What Collaboration Looks Like
We usually start with a short call to define goals, scope, and the current stage of development. From there, I propose a process, set clear boundaries what we solve now vs. later, and deliver texts and documentation that can be used directly in production.
Why Storysmith
Storysmith is my way of working: taking storytelling seriously but keeping it practical. I build narratives that aren't fragile they can handle design changes, iteration, and the realities of development.
